Dean School Of Planning Architecture

The School of Planning and Architecture is situated in Maseno University’s Kisumu City Campus. The School has a mandate for training relevant manpower as its contribution to the National Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The current shortage and inadequacy of skills for spatial planning and public policy development framework is emerging as a major challenge in County Governments which forms a key area that the School can address. Therefore the School has positioned itself to support Counties in terms of research, training and public policy in the urban built environment. In the first five years of devolution the Counties were focusing on setting systems. However they are now repositioning themselves to the development of the counties and to address issues of the built environment as they change focus from internal issues and as they seek partners to develop themselves strategically. They draw on the realization of the rural-urban linkages in planned development of small towns, the relationship between urbanization and economic growth in Kenya and the assumed positive relationship between urbanization, unemployment and inequality. Engagement with the Counties requires a structured framework and human resource support to enable the School play this pivotal role.
